Kokeshi are the artisinal wooden dolls of Tohoku Japan. Kokeshi, from Tohoku with love is a book that explores the culture of kokeshi, both traditional and modern. This 210 page book includes interviews with 22 kokeshi artisans, as well as people involved in other aspects of Tohoku culture (ryokans, shamisen, food, sake). The culture of kokeshi and hotsprings go hand in hand, and during the production of this book, we went to 12 regions in all 6 prefectures of Tohoku to bring you a lavishly visual guide that introduces not only kokeshi culture, but the culture of onsen villages in Northern Japan. Many of the regions were hard hit by the 3.11 disaster, especially Fukushima, and we hope this book also serve as promotion for craftsmen that are still struggling in the aftermath.

This book is intended as a charity project for the victims of the disaster.  All proceeds will go to charity.
